Summary
The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for maintaining the technical integrity of the network. This position assists in leading the networking team in monitoring and proactively responding to potential and real network outages. The Senior Network Engineer maintains a high level of technical proficiency and is responsible for assisting the Network Engineers in achieving technical milestones.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Network Proficiency:
- The Senior Network Engineer must be proficient in configuring and troubleshooting network protocols used in a service provider network.

- Firm understanding of routing protocols including OSPF and BGP
- Understand MPLS and how it integrates with OSPF and BGP in a service provider network.
- Actively monitor the Networking industry to identify potential improvements to the IRON network.
- Achieve and maintain relevant network certifications.
Network Reliability:

- Maintain network monitoring software (NMS) to provide real-time alerts, network trends, utilization, errors and security threats.
- Review single points of failure and work with the Network manager develop a redundancy plan.
- Lead the network team in responding to NOC events.
- Monitor Vendor and Associate maintenance notifications for potential network impact.
Monitoring and troubleshooting:

- Monitor and proactively respond to alerts generated by the NMS.
- Troubleshoot, isolate and repair circuit issues and / or hardware failures.
- Monitor network status to ensure all redundant links are operational.
- Review security publications for hardware and software vulnerabilities.
- Maintain software and hardware updates on a regular basis.
Project Management:
- Provide project management support within the IRON organization as needed by the Directors, Officers, the network management team, or others as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:

- Bachelor Degree in Network Engineering / Computer Science plus 5 years of relevant hands-on experience.
- Associate Degree in Network Engineering / Computer Science plus 7 years of relevant hands-on experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience managing and configuring Juniper Network equipment.
- Juniper Certifications, JNCIA, JNCIS-SP
- Experience managing and configuring service provider networks
- Experienced configuring, troubleshooting and maintaining MPLS network architecture.
